The copper smelting slag (CSS) utilized in this study was sourced from a copper smelter located in Xinjiang, China. In order to gain a deeper understanding of the mineral composition of the CSS and the distribution of metal elements, X-ray diffraction (XRD) phase analysis was performed, with the outcomes presented in Fig. 4 a.
The majority of a copper smelting charge is made up of copper and iron sulphides and oxides; other ingredients include aluminum oxide (Al 2 O 3) [17], magnesium oxide (MgO), calcium oxide (CaO), and silicon dioxide (SiO 2) [18].Since copper slag has pozzolanic properties, it has cementitious properties and can be used to substitute cement in some cases [19].
Fayalite is the main phase of copper slag and a type of Fe silicate glass that is composed of a polymerized network of silicate tetrahedrons, in which SiO 2 and FeO are generally considered as network formers and modifiers, respectively. The structure of fayalite is shown in Fig. 13 [107].In iron silicate glass, O 2− exists in the form of bridging and non-bridging oxygens (BOs and …
Practically, the matte grade is adjusted by the ratio of O 2 in the blast to concentrate feed rate, assuming a constant slag composition. Due to the fact that the matte grade determines the extent of oxidation of Fe and S, it also determines the extent SO 2 evolution [], and it influences the partitioning of the elements between different phases.. Fe/SiO 2 ratio: This …

The copper slag samples used in this study were the mixture of converter copper slags and old slags abandoned by Jinchuan Group Co., Ltd. in the last century. The chemical composition of copper slags is shown in Table 1. The content of Cu in slags is 10.6%, which has a high recovery value. The content of S is 5.03%, and the molar ratio of Cu/S ...
Globally a large volume of copper slag (Table 1) is produced which can be approximated to 2.2 tons of slag generated for every ton of copper produced [9].The annual worldwide production of slag is approximately 24.6 million tons in the early century [6, 7] and increasing at a rate of 11% per year [6].Table 1 illustrates the magnitude of slag produced in …
Given the byproduct of slag concentrate, an economic allocation method was applied to assess the environmental impacts of the flotation process (Santero and Hendry, 2016). In CS-cement production, key inputs include limestone, coal, clay, iron ore, plaster, and electricity, with CS substituting for iron ore and 50% of the clay. CS-concrete ...
Equations for electric potential, momentum, and heat transfer were solved in four different regions (i.e., air, slag, ferronickel melt, and refractory materials), and the final slag/metal boundary profile was calculated as a function of the furnace operating parameters.

Copper Slag Blasting. The process involves propelling copper slag onto a surface at high velocities using compressed air for surface coating and paint removal with abrasive blasting equipment. When the abrasive particles strike the surface, they eliminate rust, old paint, and other impurities. The tough, angular shape of copper slag is highly ...

Copper slag (CS) is a type of nontoxic industrial waste that is obtained during matte smelting and refining of copper. CS resembles the size of NFA and can be used as partial or …
High-efficiency reduction of Fe3O4 particles in molten copper slag is the key for recovering slag-entrained copper, although restrained by the sluggish reaction kinetics of commercial powdery reductants with low density. Here, a new strategy by density tuning in conjunction with pelletizing of the powdery reductants is suggested, greatly enhancing the …
The use of copper slag as a partial replacement for copper slag fine aggregate shape and gradation that mimic natural sand. Physical form of copper slag are shaped flat and pointy (sharp) and most of the iron oxides and silicates, and have stable chemical properties. The chemical composition of copper slag composed of Fe2O3, SiO2, CaO, Al2O3.
The use of copper slag aggregates in hot mix asphalt pavements was investigated by Transportation Research Board, Washington (Collins and Cielieski, 1994). Fine copper slag has reportedly been used in hot mix asphalt pavements in California and granulated copper slag has been incorporated into asphalt mixes in Georgia to improve stability.
Aggregate in Concrete. Copper slag has physical properties similar to the fine aggregate, so it can be used as a replacement of fine aggregate in concrete. Copper slag has lower absorption and higher strength properties than fine aggregate. Replacement of copper slag increases the self-weight of concrete specimens to the maximum of 15% to 20%. [9]
The precipitation of Fe 3 O 4 particles and the accompanied formation of Fe 3 O 4-wrapped copper structure are the main obstacles to copper recovery from the molten slag during the pyrometallurgical smelting of copper concentrates.Herein, the commercial powdery pyrite or anthracite is replaced with pyrite–anthracite pellets as the reductants to remove a …
Additionally, employing copper slag in place of fine aggregate provides a sustainable waste management solution because it is a by-product of the copper industry. Overall, adding copper slag to concrete has the potential to enhance a variety of characteristics and provide a more eco-friendly building material. (12)

The amount of copper flash smelting slag has increased during the recent years along with an increasing slag-to-metal ratio. During slag tapping, some copper sulfide is mechanically entrained. As a result, it is necessary to recover copper matte from the slag by suitable methods. At present, the most common way is slow, controlled cooling in a transfer …
