Deep-sea mining – plans are taking shape

Around two-thirds of the occurrences of cobaltrich ferromanganese crusts that are considered significant for deep-sea mining are located in the Pacific Ocean, while 23 per cent are in the Atlantic and about eleven per cent in the Indian Ocean. Deposits in water depths from 800 to 2500 metres are considered to be commercially pro­mising.
