Construction on the original lighthouse got underway in March of 1893, and the station commenced operation later that year on November 30. The station's light consisted of a lens lantern displayed from a post located close to the point.

Our First Light Keepers

He had been in the merchant marine for 11 years, in the U.S. Navy for 10 years, and keeper of the Turn Point lighthouse in San Juan county for nearly 12 more years. Our first keeper was born Peder Nicolaij Kristiansen on December 3, 1858, in Stavanger, Norway, to parents Christian Bentzen and Guri Christine Hansvolden.

Lighthouse Museum opens

The Turn Point Lighthouse Restoration Society announced the opening of their museum at Turn Point on July 4, 2008. TPLPS, a non profit group, dedicated it to one of Turn Point Light keepers, Louis A. Borchers (1902-1923), who left a legacy of photographs, not only of Turn Point, but of various lighthouses throughout the northwest.
